Myofascial Self Treatment – Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar Fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. The plantar fascia (the thick band of tissue that connects your heel bone to your toes) becomes strained and inflamed. The most pain is experienced when taking the first step out of bed or after sitting or standing for a long period of time. It’s usually caused by repetitive activities like running, prolonged walking or standing on hard surfaces, wearing shoes with poor support or cushioning, being overweight, or biomechanical factors such as high arches, flat feet, tight calf muscles, tight achilles tendon, or an abnormal inward twisting or rolling of the foot. It can happen in one foot or both feet.

Stretching and cooling down the plantar fascia will not only speed up the healing process but will help alleviate some of the pain. Also focus on stretching your calf muscles 2 – 3 times a day in addition to the Myofascial self treatment techniques in my video below. Myofascial self treatment is the best method for pain management that you can do on your own. Seeking out the right physician should be the next step in finding and treating the cause.
